What's the difference between retelling and Summarizing?
Retelling - When you tell a story and include every little detail.
Summarize - when you just tell the important parts of the story and leave out all the details.
Here is a summary of our lesson.
1. Tells the most important parts of a story - you "sum" it up in a few sentences
2. Don't include details, only the major parts
3. Should be brief
4. Must be told in the correct sequence
To write a good summary, you have to identify the story elements. Once you can identify these pieces, you can write a summary. Below is the organizer we have been using to begin writing our summaries.
