Happy Birthday, Roald Dahl!
We celebrated what would have been Dahl's 97th birthday in style today, even though his actual birthday was September 13. We were creative and quirky, cunning and clever...exactly as Dahl would have wanted!
Check below for pictures from one of our groups.
What a great party! We divided our grade into two sections to celebrate and complete our activities. We participated in three out of four activities:
1. Dream Jars - The BFG is about a giant, aptly named The Big Friendly Giant, and a girl named Sophie. The BFG's job is to catch dreams. He saves them in jars and, when children are asleep, blows dreams into their heads. He catches two varieties - phizzwizards and trogglehumpers. Ask your child which dream he/she created and what materials he/she chose to create the dream.
2. Gobblefunk Dictionary - The BFG is a self-taught giant. Sometimes, he mixes up his words and invents completely new words to explain his feelings and ideas. We also created new words today to add to his mixed-up Gobblefunk Dictionary. What word did your child invent?
3. Backwards Spells - Mr. Hoppy, from Esio Trot, is a love-sick man. He devises a plot to win the love of his secret crush that involves a backwards spell. ?etaerc dlihc ruoy did lleps sdrawkcab tahW
4. Creative Confections - Inspired by Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, we created our own delicious confections using a variety of chocolate candies. Then we gobbled them up!
